Today was such a beautiful day! Almost Spring like. The light is staying with us longer. Winter is not over and we are sure to have some more really cold days but we are really looking forward to the weather getting better for all us horses, humans and mother earth.
Nicole stopped by today with an old teamster friend of hers. He was a friend of Morris Adams, Duchess and Chyna's owner. Charlie talked about his father and their horses. Charlie's father did everything with the horses, logging, plowing, cutting hay, pitching it and all the other many things you do with your horses around the farm. Charlie's father died when he was 18yrs old and so did that way of life for Charlie.
You could tell that much of who he is as a man was shaped with the horses and his father. We walked around and I introduced him to all of the horses. He knew his way around the whole herd, with the elders and the youngsters and I think he had a lot of fun. What is not fun about hanging out with Tom Too, Willie or Bob and Billy and all the rest! It was a good visit with a new friend.
Whenever I meet these guys that have been carrying these traditions around for their whole lives I am honored. For their love of it, for their belief in it and the joy it has clearly brought them. His father used his horses well into the fifties....holding on much longer than most.
So here is the third installment of Nicole's workshop. We decided to end it here as this particular workshop was for the group that attended.
