When we first met Tashia she arrived with her pink boots and long pony tails and her big cowboy hat. As a homeschooled child in a large family she knew how to take the best advantage of a learning situation. She has become an amazing young woman who makes us proud everytime we see her with her horse. She is able to do just about any job any adult can do with the horses...from driving..to riding...to caring for....to training...she is simply amazing. She is not the only extrodinary young person at BSE, there are many, proving that all we have to do is provide the space and opportunity for their bond with the horses to strengthen...they will do the rest!
From Tashia:
I first started going to blue star about 3 1/2 years ago, I was 8 then, and knew nothing about horses! I took riding lessons with Justin and with those lessons i learned how to tie up, groom and tack up a horse properly and also how to maintain good equitation in the saddle. I also learned how to harness and drive and I have helped bring out hay with the other barn girls. During the week i would go and volunteer at bse and having many knowledgeable people there also taught me more on horse care and handling. (I still volunteer.) Everytime I go to Bse I learn something new, either from people or the horses! I have met and still know so many amazing people and animals at blue star that I call my second family. Blue star had taught me to love and care for horses no matter how big and scary they look at the age of eight! In march of 2012, Romeo, my 6 year old Haflinger, came to blue star and he had trust issues. I immediately fell in love him and decided to work with him. Romeo would run away from you and would spook so easily but I knew I could help him. I worked with Romeo for months on being handled and desensitized and during that process we grew a special bond. Now I can ride Romeo at a walk trot and we are together learning how to canter, often times I can walk up to Romeo and he will follow me around in the pasture with no halter or anything! Blue star has taught me a lot with their horse knowledge and I use what i learned from them everytime I go to the farm. During this past summer, while Brooke and Christina were at blue star everyday they taught me a lot of new things! It was really cool to see their step by step process when they were training our young horses! Also with the CSE garden Justin and Nell taught me a lot about the different types of vegetables and the tools they used for plowing and planting the food. It's so beautiful to see every one on the farm work together as team and seeing them teach the public about our Mission. Blue star has inspired me to have a farm just like they do when I get older to help horses, humans, and mother earth! I just have to say thank you blue star for everything you have done and all that you have given me!
