Protocol - Native Elders

Arvol Looking Horse is the 19th generation Keeper of the White Calf Buffalo pipe of peace. This responsibility was bestowed on him at a young age. He consults with and works with communities and countries in helping bring better understanding of his people's way of life thru sharing their prayers and traditions and their hope for a world brought into balance with love for all Creation. Arvol feels the Sioux people have an important role in "mending the hoop" of all life. His service and dedication in the world is a reflection of his deep love of his people and culture, both of which he strives to represent correctly in the modern world.

When approaching him and asking that he consult with you, you must offer tobacco, a small amount wrapped in a red cloth. This offering is the respectful way of going about asking for his help. Arvol's partner Paula can answer all questions regarding their work in the world and at home in South Dakota.

There will be Elders from every culture attending this gathering. They are to be looked after and always given first in seating and any lines.

If you are interested in making prayer ties for specific prayers to be prayed over by Arvol and others assisting the prayer ceremony, you are welcome to bring 1/4 yd. of Red, Black, Yellow, White, Blue, Green cotton material, string, and tobacco. It is also helpful to bring some of the ceremonial plants that are used. Sage, Sweetgrass, Cedar and Tobacco are all welcome gifts for the ceremony on Monday.
