This opportunity is for those with horse experience who want to develop their skills as a barn supervisor. Supervisors are needed to manage:
- Barn chores and feeding - The barn supervisor will manage volunteers and assure that all barn chores are completed properly and safely.
- Horse care plans - Supervise the execution of Blue Star’s horse care plan. Each horse has his or her own special needs, treatments, and daily exercises. As Barn Supervisor, you will assure each task is done correctly and safely.
- Barn maintenance
- Office work
- Fundraising
- Event tasks
PRE-REQUISITES FOR BARN SUPERVISOR PROGRAM
- Be a Herd Member
- Attend a Sunday farm tour
- Complete the Volunteer Waiver
- Participation in Orientation and Equine Body Language workshops
- Completion of a liability waiver providing medical and background information
- Physical ability to carry full water buckets, to push full wheelbarrows, and to lift 50-lb bags of grain
- Previous horse experience (preferably 2 years) as demonstrated to Blue Star staff
- Reliability to show up when scheduled to supervise work-contribution and exchange-for-work volunteers
- Ability to teach basic horsemanship skills to inexperienced people and to supervise the safe and satisfactory completion of daily barn and horse-care tasks
- Ability to sign up through our online volunteer scheduling system and follow-through on scheduled commitments
- Reliable transportation
- Be at least 20 years old (some exceptions apply)
