The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. -Mohandas Gandhi
If I know anything about myself it’s that …I have never been more fulfilled then by being a public servant. As I grow and learn I have to come to understand that my heart is providing people with understanding and knowledge of things that affect them and helping them find the tools they need to be sustainable, in life or farming. It’s why agriculture is so very important to me. There isn’t one place I go that a conversation about agriculture or the horses doesn’t come up. Seriously, I have been to networking events where no one pays attention to anyone unless you can help them, but bring up the horses at Blue Star or how agriculture directly affects even the biggest corporations in the world or the everyday household, and I promise it’s a magnetic effect. People do care about their food supply and our cause at Blue Star, they just need the knowledge to understand it. Knowledge is power. Either that or they just love food and horses.
Melissa Guerrero is an advocate for agriculture. Graduating from the University of Connecticut in ‘06, with a B.S. in Agricultural and Natural Resources, Melissa is no stranger to the horse and farming community. Her past work entails riding for the UConn Equestrian Team, UConn Morgan Drill Team, participating and training in the UConn Horse barn and Morgan breeding program, also owning and running a 30-stall horse barn. Most recently, Melissa worked for the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources in Boston for the last five years in Marketing and Agricultural Development. She has worked very closely with the agricultural fairs industry, Massachusetts Agricultural Fairs Association and holds a position on the Board of Directors for Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom. Her experience and resources bring BSE a new avenue of opportunities. Her new role at Blue Star is the Marketing and Public Relations Manager, and she will continue her love for agriculture and the horses by supporting BSE with her new position.
