2004 chestnut Oldenburg gelding
Huey Khan is our first rescue horse. Although not a draft horse, he is a rather large horse; he is a German Oldenburg. Huey Khan's early life is very
unclear. We do know that he is still young, about 5 years old. We surmise he was started too soon at some point in his early life. In other words, some person likely wanted him to be a jumper and one day, Huey Khan's still-growing knees popped. It has taken about a year's worth of veterinary care to arrive at this diagnosis. Initially, he was treated for navicular hoof pain, as his feet had been neglected when he was rescued. He has had orthopedic shoes and had his heel regrown. He has received treatment for a serious case of Lyme disease. The good news is that his feet are in perfect condition and he is disease-free. However, his knees need x-rays and possible cortisone shots to ensure his comfort and possible recovery. He has really good days, and some bad days when it is especially damp and cold. His continued care is funded by donations to Blue Star Equiculture.
He is best friends with Cupcake and they love to play with sticks. He is affectionate and sweet and loves to eat! We know that Huey Khan can heal more and have a purposeful life as a companion horse or therapy horse. He has been through a lot and has some more to go. We are committed to his recovery and know he still has a lifetime of things to share.
If you are interested in donating for the purposes of helping Huey Khan get to his next stage of healing, please let us know!
