Horses available for adoption - New Horses added 4/23/2013

Blue Star Equiculture's horses are either working horses who help support the farm, or horses who have earned their retirement and are retired due to age or infirmity.  All of our horses, however, are potentially available for placement in the right home.  If you are interested in adopting one of our horses please complete our on-line Adoption Form....Click here

Below are the Blue Star Equiculture Residence available for adoption:

Non-Blue Star Horses in Need of Homes

Blue Star Equiculture also works to find homes for horses that do not belong to us. We do not list horses here that are for sale. Blue Star Equiculture is not responsible for the accuracy of the information contained in these listings, or for any contact with horses or horse owners listed below.  We are happy, however, to act as an intermediary and will gladly help both parties connect and will provide contract templates to protect the horses being rehomed.  Owners listing their horses here, please let us know when your horse has been placed!  Ideally, we would like to help you with a protective contract.  Please contact us for more information.

Kelly

Kelly

For more information about Kelly contact: Ann Converse (413)262-1208 banana1967@aol.com
Horse's Name:
Kelly

Horse's age:
19

Horse's Breed:
Quarterhorse

Where your horse is located.
Belchertown, MA

Description of your horse:
19 yr. old dun broodmare, barefoot, good for the farrier and vet, 14.2 hh, has been a great trail horse, doesn't spook, gets along well with other horses, does well on the cross ties

Issues with your horse:
pain in the right rear hind, tested negative for Lyme Disease in November; when right hoof is lifted for cleaning she pulls it up very high as if in pain, she has been taking Cosequin since November 2012. She has gotten stubborn and is difficult to catch in the pasture unless it is dinner time (this started about 2 months ago).

Why you are looking for a new home for your horse?
Kelly is the first horse I have owned, I have only had her for a little over a year and I love to trail ride. Unfortunately, with Kelly's pain issue I no longer can ride her. Unfortunately, I cannot afford more medical testing and treatments for her. Also, she and I have not really bonded. Riding used to be great with her, but on the ground we don't seem to trust each other. I would like her to go to a home where she can just be who she is and be made comfortable and cared for.

Health status including vaccinations:
She needs her spring shots.

Horse's Name:
Bill and Jerry

Horse's age:
22-23

Horse's Breed:
Belgians

Where your horse is located.
East Canaan, CT

Description of your horse:
16.3 hh Belgian team-Bill and Jerry. Half brothers about 22-23 years old. Light colored.

Issues with your horse:
Bill has trouble keeping weight on and needs senior feed and we mix it with beet pulp. Bill had a crack in his back left hoof that was treated. He never went lame on it

Why you are looking for a new home for your horse?
Getting a younger team and we do not have the space for 6 horses pasturewise. We also would no longer use them and that would be a shame. I think horses like to be used and go out for drives. Bill and Jerry are certainly able to be used.

Health status including vaccinations:
Up to date on all shots, but never pulled a coggins as they do not leave our area.

 Horse's Name:
Zephyr

Horse's age:
7

Horse's Breed:
Belgian Cross

Where your horse is located.
Harrisburg, PA

Description of your horse:
7 year old Belgian Cross gelding. Obtained at Camelot Auction in Cranberry, NJ at the end of September 2012. Originated from New Holland auction in PA. Believed to be an Amish horse.

Issues with your horse:
Zephyr is young, green and a bit 'spooky'. Recently we have learned from a vet visit that he is suffering from Uveitis, has only partial vision and will go completely blind in the next couple of years. He is not mean or aggressive to people, but is unsure of them and is a bit nervous. Seems to have had limited contact with people prior to coming to me.

Why you are looking for a new home for your horse?
Due to his condition, and the fact that he is not trained, or has had very limited training, he is a safety risk at his current farm as it is an eductional and lesson facility for youth.

Health status including vaccinations:
Coggins came back clean. Vert confirmed he is healthy other than the Uveitis
