20-something flaxen chestnut Belgian mare (docked tail).
Chyna is Duchess’s sister. The sisters were given to Blue Star Equiculture by Morris Adams, who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was unable to continue to care for the girls. Chyna and Duchess were Blue Star’s first working team, and supported the herd through 2009 with their labor. They participated in Morris’s funeral in November 2009, when he sadly passed away, pulling the hearse with his flag-draped casket to the cemetery. Chyna can be distinguished from Kelly and Daisy by her short tail, and from her sister Duchess by her slightly more reddish color, and pink upper lip / nose. Chyna helps in the six horse hitch now and then. They are the preferred team for the lead by our veteran teamster Bill Darnley. He recognizes their great skills and easily guides them as they show off for parades and other special events. Both Chyna and her sister Duchess are mostly retired now. They love to get harnessed up and go for a short trip. They both let us know last year that that is all they want to do these days. The girls of a funny way of saying "we're done", by simply heading back to the trailer when they get tired. The girls are the matriarchs of the Herd and by special request of Morris and his wife Jane will remain with us until the end.
